Date: June 24, 2024

To: New Students

Welcome to Wake Forest University and to fall term registration, the first step in selecting courses for your first Wake Forest semester. This message is packed with information about this multi-step process, so please read it in its entirety before you begin planning for courses.

Important Dates

  • Beginning today: Login to Workday and complete your Onboarding tasks. This is required before the system will permit you to access registration.
  • Monday, July 8 – Friday, July 12: Registration for Fall 2024 courses (detailed information follows)
  • Friday, August 23: Add/drop begins – you will be permitted to make adjustments to your Fall 2024 schedule after consulting with your Lower Division Advisor.
  • Monday, August 26: First Day of Classes.

Registration Week

Registration week is July 8-12. (Most new students will register beginning July 10.) You may begin at your assigned registration time and continue until 5:00 PM EDT on Friday, July 12.

You will be permitted to make adjustments to your Fall 2024 schedule during New Deac Week on August 23 after consulting with your Lower Division Advisor during your individual advising meeting. At that time, your advisor should remove the advising hold which will allow you access to make adjustments to your course schedule.

Tasks To Complete Before Registration

  • Complete Onboarding Tasks

Login to Workday as soon as possible and complete your Onboarding tasks. You will not be able to register until you complete all onboarding tasks. Once all tasks are completed, your onboarding hold will be removed. Instructions on how to complete student onboarding tasks can be found in Onboarding Tasks for Undergraduate Students.

  • View Your Registration Appointment

Log into Workday > Go to “My Academics” app > Click on “View My Registration Appointments”. This process is also illustrated in your Forestry 101 Registration Guide.

  • Check for Holds

Check your Academic Dashboard and ensure you have no additional holds. If you have holds, be sure to resolve them prior to registration with the office that placed your hold. You will not be able to register for classes until the holds are removed.

For information (video) on how to find your holds, click here.

  • Explore Course Sections Being Offered

Before registration week, you can identify course sections that are offered this fall semester to get an idea of what is available. For video instruction on how to research course sections, click here.

A typical course schedule consists of an average of 15 hours per semester. A minimum of 12 hours is required to retain full-time status. You may register for a maximum of 17 credit hours.

A note on Wake Forest terminology: Course vs. Course Sections: A course is a class that is offered at Wake Forest University and is described in the bulletin. A course section is a specific subgroup of a course that is offered at a particular time. You will be registering for course sections, not courses.

  • Create Saved Schedules

After you find course sections that you want to consider, you may create several different schedule options and save them as Saved Schedules. Again, plan for a schedule that consists of 15-17 credit hours.

For instructions on how to build saved schedules, click here. Refer to pages 1-4.

  • Learn about Workday.

Workday is Wake Forest’s enterprise system that you will use for all enrollment activities and services. Go to Project Wakeday Training for more information and additional resources.

Automatic Waitlists

To be a full-time student, you must register for 12 hours. However, a normal course load is 14-16 credits. Since you are registering so near to the beginning of the semester, be sure that you register for a full load during registration week.

A note on Workday’s waitlisting feature: the registration system has a waitlist function that you may notice as you work through course selection. This option is not available to you during new student registration week July 8-12, but it will be available when you return to course add/drop in August. Since you will be able to use the waitlisting feature at that time, you will want to understand how it works.

The Workday Student wait-list system uses auto-promotion throughout the registration period. This means that if you add yourself to a waitlist, Workday will automatically enroll you into the course section when a seat becomes available, provided you meet the course section eligibility (permission of instructor/prerequisite), there are no time conflicts in your schedule, and you are not registered for another section of the same course.

For more information about the waitlist system, click here.

Important Note about AP Credits and Registration

Based on the College Board’s score report transmission schedule, Wake Forest University may not receive all 2024 AP Exam test scores in time for registration.

This may impact registration for any course for which you need AP credit as a prerequisite (ex: a score of 4 or 5 on the Psychology AP Exam will earn PSY 151 credit, which is necessary to take upper-level Psychology courses). You will not be able to register for a course without meeting its prerequisites.

Per the College Board’s website, you should be able to view your 2024 AP Exam scores in your College Board account on Monday, July 8.

If you have a qualifying AP Exam score (see 2024-2024 Advanced Placement Policy) that satisfies a prerequisite for a course for which you are trying to register, then during registration week (July 8-12), submit a Prerequisite Override Request. For instruction on how to submit a Course Section Prerequisite Override Request, click here.

Requesting a prerequisite override does not serve as a substitute for submitting your official AP Exam scores. You must have your official scores submitted to Wake Forest University via the College Board. Wake Forest’s College Code is 5885.

Information regarding CHM 123/123L- “Honors Organic Chemistry I”

If you earn a 4 or 5 on AP Chemistry or a 6 or 7 on IB Chemistry HL, you will receive a special invitation from Dr. John Tomlinson to take CHM 123/123L Honors Organic Chemistry I during the  Fall 2024 semester. The CHM 123 lecture is scheduled to meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 – 9:50 AM EDT; the lab (CHM 123L) is on Tuesdays from 2 – 5:50 PM EDT. This course is only available by invitation to incoming students during the fall semester. If you have a qualifying AP or IB score and want to take this course, please leave room for it in your fall schedule. Do not submit a Registration Override request, as the invitation to the course will provide you with more information on registration for CHM 123/123L. Any questions about whether or not this course is appropriate for you given your academic and pre-professional goals may be directed to the Office of Academic Advising at undergraduateadvising@wfu.edu
