New Wake Forest first year students help build a house with Habitat for Humanity as part of their pre-orientation volunteer Service with the SPARC program.

About S.P.A.R.C.

Students Promoting Action and Responsibility in the Community (S.P.A.R.C.) is a service-oriented pre-orientation program organized by the Office of Civic & Community Engagement. Through S.P.A.R.C., you will team up with multiple nonprofit organizations and community partners through service, learn about the issues impacting Winston-Salem and build relationships with fellow Demon Deacons.

Wake Forest students in the SPARC pre-orientation program lay out and install pre-made wall sections at a Habitat for Humanity build site in East Winston-Salem on Tuesday, August 20, 2019.

Over three-and-a-half action-filled days, you will volunteer in a group of four first-year students matched with an upperclass mentor. The mentors will lead you in service activities, answer any questions about Wake Forest University and introduce you to the spirit of our motto, Pro Humanitate.

S.P.A.R.C. accepts students on a rolling basis, with spots filled first-come, first-served. Specific program details, like the daily schedule, will be available in early August.
