About S.P.A.R.C.

Students Promoting Action and Responsibility in the Community (S.P.A.R.C.) is a service-oriented pre-orientation program organized by staff and student leaders in the Office of Civic & Community Engagement. Through S.P.A.R.C., you will provide direct service hours to local nonprofit organizations while learning about the issues impacting Winston-Salem and building relationships with fellow Demon Deacons interested in living out the Pro Humanitate motto.

Wake Forest students in the SPARC pre-orientation program lay out and install pre-made wall sections at a Habitat for Humanity build site in East Winston-Salem on Tuesday, August 20, 2019.

Over four action-filled days, you will volunteer in a group with other first-year students matched with an upper class mentor. The mentors will lead you in service and reflection activities and serve as a guide for your first few days on campus. This program will run in partnership with Deacon Camp to incorporate campus traditions into the service-oriented pre-orientation experience.

S.P.A.R.C. accepts students on a rolling basis, with spots filled first-come, first-served. Specific program details, like the daily schedule, will be available in early August.
