Oh, the places you’ll go…and the things you’ll learn.
The Office of Sustainability provides students with the support to transform their interests in sustainability into passionate leadership. Whether we can encourage you to visit one of our garden spaces or inspire you to become a change agent for sustainability, there is a place and a way for you to get involved.
What you need to know
Find your place with us
Meet sustainability student leaders and learn how you can get involved at our “Dig In at the Campus Garden” and “Let’s Taco-Bout Sustainability” events during your first few weeks on campus. While you’re at Wake, you can join a sustainability student organization, start your own, or get your feet wet through a diverse range of volunteer opportunities. You’ll have the chance to attend seminars on climate justice and hear from world-renowned guest speakers. Celebrate Earth Month with us each spring, featuring our Spring Equinox Celebration, service projects, tree plantings, and more. Unique events and opportunities throughout the year will help you have some fun, expand your mind, and be inspired to act.
Connect & cultivate
Global sustainability concepts are rooted in hands-on experience in the Campus Garden. Practice the fundamentals of sustainable gardening, learn about the connections between regenerative agriculture and climate change, and harvest produce to alleviate local hunger. Oh, and take a minute to crunch a carrot or cuddle a chicken!
Ready to lead?
Apply to be a part of SLG ‘28, a sustainability leadership group just for first-year students that focuses on leadership, education, and community. Give a presentation and learn from other students at “Earth Talks.” Train to be a Connect & Cultivate leader in the Campus Garden. Start to think about the impact you can have as a member of our brand-new sustainability influencers team. Jumpstart your career by applying for a paid internship with the Office of Sustainability; you can even propose your own project or position! Or talk with our staff to develop your own leadership role!
