Pro Humanitate starts at home.
The Office of Civic and Community Engagement provides students with opportunities to invest in the local Winston-Salem community through service and civic leadership. A proud advocate for meaningful change through hands-on experiences, OCCE is the hub of community-based activities for faculty, staff and students to make a difference locally and beyond.
Whether it’s volunteering with Campus Kitchen, dancing the night away for Wake N’ Shake, or leading a service project, there’s a place for every Deac to do good. In partnership with community, we’re finding creative solutions to pressing issues, leveraging our shared resources, and building capacity for sustainable change.
What you need to know
Get involved
There’s an array of ways to get involved; just take your pick. Collaborate with others to organize social change, step into servant leadership with programs like Freedom School or D.E.S.K., or make a commitment to impact through one of our three initiatives: Education Equity, Health & Nutrition, and Economic Empowerment. No matter where or how you’re involved, there’s plenty of room to give back.
Make a difference
Join existing initiatives or programs or build new ways to serve. Through philanthropic events that support the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund or by putting Pro Humanitate into practice with campus partnerships, leave your mark by touching the lives of others.
Stay connected
Connect across community, and find opportunities to give back through GivePulse, our portal for community engagement. Designed for every Deac to find their niche in serving, GivePulse is an online community that allows you to list, find, coordinate, and measure your impact. You can search for local events and causes that mean the most to you and see the tangible difference you’re making with volunteer experiences. All you have to do is log in, search, serve, and track!
