Subject: Family Weekend Info

Dear parents and families,

Dr. Peter Rodriguez assumed the presidency of Wake Forest on July 1. President Rodriguez wanted to share this welcome message with our P’30 families and students. We look forward to all that Wake Forest will accomplish under his leadership. Go Deacs!

You might be wondering what your Deac’s first year may look like. Sophomores Carolyn Burke (’29) and Campbell Hudkins (’29) show us what they remember about their recently-completed first year at Wake in this video. I hope you like it as much as I did.

Today’s message is all you need to know about Family Weekend, one of the happiest events of the year!

Action Item Tracker

**CRITICAL ACTION ITEM**

Last Thursday, we sent this message to all P’30 families. Approximately 600 incoming first-year students still have incomplete immunization documentation. Students may think they completed this process correctly, but because an incomplete health file will prevent your student from moving into their residence hall (and more), we need your help to ensure all ‘30s are fully cleared. If you have not already done so, please have your student follow the instructions in this message to verify their immunization compliance status.

Health Insurance Waiver/Enrollment
Opened July 3; due September 15
Ensure your student either enrolls in or completes a student waiver for our health insurance program by Sept 15.

Tuition bill available for Third Party Payers
Tuition became visible in Workday July 1; tuition must be paid by August 1.

Family Weekend event registration – see more info below
Opens 10 a.m. July 15 at familyweekend.wfu.edu.
As a reminder, Family Weekend will be held October 2-4 on campus.

Featured Topic: Family Weekend – all you need to know

  • Family Weekend will be held October 2-4 on campus. If you are able to attend, it’s a great way to spend time with your student, be able to check in in-person to see how they are doing, and get to know Wake Forest a little better.
  • Registration will open on July 15 at 10 a.m. at familyweekend.wfu.edu.
  • We ask families to officially register for Family Weekend so that we have an accurate count for meals, t-shirts, and event space.
Family Weekend schedule
  • The Family Weekend committee is currently putting the finishing touches on the weekend’s schedule. The schedule will be available by July 15 at familyweekend.wfu.edu. Thank you for your patience as those details are finalized.
  • There will be tours, open houses, and other experiences offered throughout the weekend. Please note that unless it is explicitly stated that tickets are required for an event, all tours, open houses, presentations, and performances will be open to attendees on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • There may be additional updates to the schedule after the football game time is announced (typically 10 days before the game) and the Saturday programming can be finalized.
  • Family Weekend Check-In (i.e., to pick up your credentials/badges and tickets) will be open on Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3. Check-in will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday. Saturday check-in will depend on game time and will close 2 hours before kickoff.
Ticketed events
  • Most of the events that will be scheduled for the weekend are covered by the registration fee, but there are a few ticketed events at additional cost:
    • The student tailgate area opens 3 hours before game time; kickoff will be announced about 10 days before the game. Family Weekend participants are welcome to join students at that time if they have a Family Weekend credential/badge and a game ticket.
      • Families without Family Weekend credentials but with a valid game ticket may join the students when gates open for the game, 90 minutes prior to kickoff.
    • WF vs. Stanford game
      • Families must purchase their own football tickets at godeacs.com or 336.758.3322.
      • Students can get a free ticket to sit in the students’ football section with the Screamin’ Demon Rewards App (ticket claims open at noon the Monday before the game). If your student wants to sit with you, you will need to purchase a football ticket for your student
    • Farewell Brunch on Sunday – your student will need a ticket if they wish to attend with you
    • Family Weekend t-shirts will be available to pre-purchase when you register for events. A limited number will be available for sale during Family Weekend. My best advice is if you want one, order it in advance!
Family Weekend registration fee and credentials/badges
  • The $50 Family Registration fee includes visitor credentials/badges for up to 4 visiting family members (Wake students do not need a badge), a Family Weekend gift, and access to signature Family Weekend campus activities. Families registered for the weekend are welcome to join their Deacons for food trucks, music, and fun at the tailgate before kickoff!
  • If your party will include more than 4 campus visitors, additional credentials/badges may also be purchased at $15 each.
  • It is important that families officially register for Family Weekend so that we can plan accurately for our events and giveaways.

If you have questions about Family Weekend that are not answered on their website or FAQ, you can contact the Family Weekend team:  email is the best method. Please email and the team will respond as soon as they can during normal work hours.

Closing Thoughts: Pre Wall Street Zoom on August 4
  • Parents and students of the Class of 2030 are invited to attend an information session on August 4th at 5 p.m. via Zoom to learn more about the Pre-Wall Street Career track. The track is open to first year students interested in exploring a career in the financial industry.
  • The Pre‐Wall Street Career Track provides early and focused professional preparation for qualified Wake Forest students intending to pursue careers in Investment Banking, Asset Management, Sales & Trading, and Private Equity on a global basis.
  • Please join us by having your student register for the Zoom call for your family (your student must be logged in to their WFU email) to learn more about the opportunities via the track. (The session will be recorded and provided upon request for families who cannot attend.)
  • For questions or to request the recording, contact Program Director, Marty Malloy @ .

And as always, you’ll hear from me next Tuesday!
