July 14: Move-In Guide

Dear parents and families,

We are now about a month away from Move-In! Today’s message shares our comprehensive Move-In Guide, which has all the info you need for a smooth move-in.

• Family Weekend event registration opens tomorrow, July 15, at 10 a.m. at familyweekend.wfu.edu. Please see the Family Weekend FAQ for additional details about the weekend.
  
• Reminder: Be Sure to Have a Laptop for Your Student: If you have not already made arrangements for your student to have a laptop, please do that ASAP. All students must have a laptop. Review the WakeWare official program (which includes a four-year on-campus warranty) and buy through our University Bookstore or consult the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) guidelines to make sure your student’s laptop needs are covered before move-in. Purchasing WakeWare also includes any summer Apple educational promos (previously an added accessory or gift card), so stay tuned for that announcement drop!
  
• Vehicle Registration opens August 4 (for students who want to have a car while they are at school)
  
• Reminder: Meet the Executive Director of CLASS (Center for Learning, Access, and Student Success) optional session will be held on Thursday, July 23 and July 30 at 6:00 p.m. Eastern. Register here. The session will cover learning accommodations, on-campus student success resources, tutoring and academic coaching options, and more. CLASS’ Executive Director, Dr. Michael Shuman, will review the academic accommodations process and answer questions. Join us on July 23 or July 30 at 6:00 p.m. Eastern. 
  
• Reminder: Encourage your student to complete the New Deac 101 Online Orientation course. Your student was given access to the course on July 1st and must complete it by August 28th. To access the course, students must log in to Canvas using their WFU credentials and progress through the entire course. If your student has any questions related to the course, they should email .

• We have created a comprehensive Move-In Guide that shows you step-by-step what your family needs to do for move-in. Please review the Move-In Guide thoroughly. 
  
• We keep the Move-In Guide on the website (vs. copying all the info here) because in the event we have to change something, we can easily do so. As such, you may wish to bookmark the Move-In Guide on your computer or your phone so you have easy access.
  

• Important note for families of older Wake Forest students: We have a new check-in process this year for the Class of 2030. We no longer have “suggested move-in windows”; we have specific check-in appointments (selected by students). Students/families who arrive before their check-in time will be directed to wait in a designated parking area until their appointment time.
  
• We ask families to kindly follow all instructions in the Move-In Guide: this includes things like driving to campus using the specific route given to your student (to help us with traffic flow), our guidelines for building access (i.e., students cannot give their keys or ID cards to anyone else to access their building), and more.

Please take some time to review the Move-In Guide as a family so that everyone who will be coming to campus for move-in is on the same page as to how the process works. 

Closing Thoughts: Please do not bring alcohol or other substances to move-in

• In advance of Move-In, my colleagues have asked me to share this request with all families: please do not provide your underage student with alcohol when moving them in (or at any other time).
  
• Providing minors with alcohol is against state law, but it is also important to be aware of the risks, liability, and student safety. If you provide alcohol to your underage student, once you leave campus, you have no control over how that alcohol will be consumed, with whom it will be shared, or what the consequences of use may be. Thank you in advance for your cooperation on this important matter.
  
• Also, North Carolina and federal laws do not allow the possession or consumption of marijuana (cannabis). Please remind your student not to bring marijuana or any other drugs or paraphernalia to campus, even if those are legal in your home state or country.
