Building University Inclusion through Leadership and Diversity (B.U.I.L.D.) is for first-year students seeking to build a community of leaders interested in creating social change.
This Pre-orientation program guides participants to think critically about the intersections of identity, social justice and activism and what it means both for themselves at Wake Forest and in the world; to test assumptions about what it means to lead others and be an agent for social change; to develop and compare various perspectives on leadership; to explore ethical issues at the heart of social change work; and to understand intersecting identities and how they impact leading and creating inclusive communities. It is a program oriented to both critical examination of leadership as well as building skills and strategies for future activism and organizing.
Participants will learn through the co-construction of knowledge, where everyone will work together to inquire, test assumptions, build new knowledge and learn from the trial and error of real experiences. The conversations and activities help participants think about how we can talk, listen and learn from one another as diverse human beings with a varied set of experiences, belief systems and backgrounds.
Join the staff of the Offices of Civic & Community Engagement and Diversity & Inclusion for a fun, interactive and transformative introduction to Wake Forest and Winston-Salem.
