Grand Opening Day Sale Event
The Resident Student Association (RSA) and University Stores, in collaboration with Bed Bath & Beyond, will offer a number of items for residence hall rooms on move-in day, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Look for the tent on Manchester Plaza, right across the street from first-year residence halls. Pick up those last-minute needs, including carpets, storage solutions, electronics and other room furnishings. Proceeds benefit the RSA.
Linens
All residence hall beds require extra long twin sheet sets, which can be purchased at many retailers. You may also purchase sheets through the Resident Student Association (RSA); the extra long sheets and bedding products are guaranteed to fit all of the beds on campus. Matching towels and storage items are also available. All products are guaranteed until graduation, and shipping is free for certain orders. Proceeds benefit RSA programs. Visit the website for more details or call (800) 957-4338.
Lofts
If you wish to use a loft to create additional living space in you room, the loft must be ordered through Collegiate Concepts. You can preorder a loft at www.loftconcepts.com and have the loft delivered to your room before move-in. Lofts may also be rented on move-in day, but quantities will be limited. Futons are also available for purchase.
Please read the information below before ordering a loft. You must have a residence hall and room assignment before orders are made.
- Collins and Luter Residence Halls – The furniture in both halls allows for bunking the beds.
- South Residence Hall – This residence hall already has a loft, so you don’t need to purchase one.
- Babcock Residence Hall – This residence hall provides beds that are adjustable up to 36″ high, therefore a loft is not necessary for gaining extra space under the beds.
- Bostwick and Johnson Residence Halls – Only one loft per room is permitted. Please speak with your roommate before purchasing a loft.
- All other residence halls – Please talk to your roommate(s) before deciding to order a loft. To have your loft in place on move-in day, you must place your order by Friday, Aug. 17. All lofts ordered after that will be installed after move-in day.
To place your order, go to www.loftconcepts.com and select Wake Forest University from the “Select Your School” drop down menu.
Cable Television
More information about cable television and the current channel line-up can be found here. Questions concerning cable television should be directed to the Information Systems Service Desk via email or at 336-758-4357.
Telephone Services
All residence hall rooms are equipped with a land-line telephone jack connection. You must bring your own phone. Cordless phones (2.4 Ghz and 5.0 Ghz) interfere with the campus wireless network and are not allowed on campus.
To activate local telephone service and voice mail, send an email to the Information Systems Service Desk after you arrive on campus that includes your name, building and room number. This includes local dial service for the campus and the Winston-Salem community, call waiting, caller ID and voicemail. Long-distance telephone service is not provided.
Questions concerning telephone services should be directed to the Information Systems Service Desk via email or at 336-758-4357.
Laundry
Facilities — Laundry machines are located in each residence hall and are available 24-hours-a-day. The cost is included in the room rent. You can access these machines using your ID card.
Your room is your home; make it comfortable-and safe
How you make your room feel like home is one of the first topics you and your roommate will likely discuss. We encourage residents to make their rooms as comfortable as possible, but keep safety in mind when decorating.
You may rearrange the furniture, but do not obstruct smoke detectors, sprinklers and heating/air conditioning vents/units, and do not rearrange furniture in a way that will impede quick exit from the room in case of an emergency.
You may not remove, or request to have removed, any University property from your room at any time during the year. If you want to bring additional pieces of furniture, these items must fit into the existing room set-up.
When affixing wall hangings, do not use materials such as nails, glue, and masking/duct or double stick tape, which can damage walls. “Hold-It” and Push Pins work well in keeping wall hangings in place and the walls intact. Wall coverings, such as wallpaper and contact paper, are prohibited. Also, do not hang fabric, flags, colored tissue paper or other items over, on, or around the lights within residence hall rooms.
The use of extension cords in all residence halls and campus houses is prohibited by the fire marshal. Students using extension cords will be fined. Power strips with a circuit breaker that have been approved by Underwriter’s Laboratories (UL) are allowed. You must plug refrigerators directly into wall outlets without the use of a power strip.
