Johnson Residence Hall
The Healthy Living Community is for students who desire a healthy living environment in which residents agree to maintain a substance–free environment and promote a healthy student lifestyle. With the support of Residence Life and Housing, residents in the Healthy Living Community are empowered to collaborate with hall staff members and other residents to promote student health and wellness in the building and across campus. In addition to the Housing Agreement, residents must abide by a Healthy Living Covenant whereby they agree to these standards, including not using or being under the influence of alcohol and other drugs in the residential environment.
Living in this environment provides residents with opportunities to participate in a wide variety of activities in which these substances are not a part and general wellness is encouraged. In addition to fostering a substance-free environment, students will have the opportunity to participate in meaningful programming with themes such as physical fitness, emotional health, and sustaining an overall healthy student lifestyle. This living environment is unique, so it is not for everyone. It is important to take the time to think about yourself and the conditions of living in the Healthy Living Community, and decide whether or not you would prefer to live within such an environment. We encourage you to talk to your parents, but you need to make the final decision.
You may request to live in the Healthy Living Community when you complete your Housing and Dining Application, available June 1. Your request does not guarantee you a space, given the limited number of spaces. We do, however, try to meet as many requests as possible. Currently, one residence hall is designated as a first-year Healthy Living Community. Decisions on placement are determined by the staff of Residence Life and Housing.
